H. Brenner Sadler

Mr. Sadler is a director of the firm and has been with the firm since 1972. He is Board Certified in Taxation by the Louisiana Bar Association. Mr. Sadler holds a B.S. from Louisiana State University in 1969; a Juris Doctorate from Louisiana State University School of Law in 1972 and a Master of Laws (LLM) in Taxation from Georgetown University in 1974.

Mr. Sadler has handled numerous commercial transactions involving complex business and tax issues. He has consulted a number of physicians, hospitals and other health care providers with respect to organizational, commercial and tax issues. He has also handled many sizable property divisions. Mr. Sadler has been a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association since 1972. He is admitted to practice before all of the Federal Courts of Louisiana, including the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is also a member of the Alexandria Bar Association and Louisiana Association of Hospital Attorneys.

Community Activities

Mr. Sadler is a board member on the Central Louisiana Conventions and Visitors Bureau.  Mr. Sadler serves as a director on the Central Louisiana Community Foundation and the St. Frances Cabrini Hospital Foundation. Mr. Sadler is President of the Krewe of Parlangua. He is a member of St. James Episcopal Church and a past Vestry member.

Frederick B. Alexius

Attorney Brief

Mr. Alexius is a director and corporate secretary of the firm. He joined the Provosty firm in 1978 after eight years of practice in New Orleans. His areas of practice include professional liability defense, health care law, general civil practice and mineral rights and transactions.  Mr. Alexius also concentrates on Commercial Litigation, Hospital and Medical Administration, Medical Staff Issues, Oil and Gas and Wills and Estates.

Mr. Alexius holds a Bachelor of Arts from LSU, 1963 and a Juris Doctorate from LSU Law Center, 1970.

Narrative

Mr. Alexius has tried numerous medical malpractice defense cases, both jury and bench trials. He has represented hospitals and physicians in contract negotiations and in medical staff matters [credentialing, supervision, discipline] as well as the drafting of medical staff and allied health care professional bylaws, rules and regulations.  He has assisted in organizing and creating business entities. In mineral matters he has represented both lessors and lessees in lease and related negotiations, rendered mineral title opinions and represented parties in mineral litigation.  He served as Clerk to Mr. Justice Albert Tate, Jr., Supreme Court of Louisiana 1970-71.

Currently, he is a member of the Council of the Louisiana Mineral Law Institute. He also served as Vice Chair of the Medical Ethics Committees of Huey P. Long Medical Center and CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini Hospital. Mr. Alexius has lectured at several LSU CLE seminars on the topics of Informed Consent, Advance Directives, End of Life Decisions and Traps for the Unwary in Handling Medical Malpractice Claims.

Joseph J. Bailey

Attorney Brief

Mr. Bailey is president and a director of the firm. He has been with the firm since 1989.  He has over 25 years of extensive litigation experience, in the areas of reinsurance and excess insurance, workers compensation claims and premium disputes, toxic tort, environmental disputes, annexation disputes, property rights and other complex civil litigation.   He also regularly advises clients in insurance, environmental and other regulatory matters. Mr. Bailey was a practicing chemical engineer in manufacturing prior to entering law.

Mr. Bailey represents local, national, and international industrial and commercial clients in a wide variety of areas. He has successfully tried many complex cases, including reinsurance arbitrations, toxic tort litigation, railroad litigation, annexation litigation, including several jury trials involving toxic tort and death.  Mr. Bailey served as general counsel for a workers’ compensation self insurance fund and has handled numerous regulatory matters related to insurance and the environment.  Mr. Bailey has in-depth legal knowledge of all aspects of workers’ compensation including claims, premiums, medical billing, regulatory matters and reinsurance disputes. H. Bradford Calvit

Attorney Brief

Mr. Calvit is a director of the firm and has been with Provosty, Sadler & deLaunay since 1987. He has more than 20 years of experience in litigation in the areas of insurance defense, including products liability and automobile negligence claims. Mr. Calvit’s area of practice also includes suits against political subdivisions and, more particularly, law enforcement officials.  Mr. Calvit has defended claims against sheriffs, deputies, police officers and other officials in state and federal court. Mr. Calvit also advises private prison management companies in various matters and handles all litigation arising from the operation of the prisons.

Mr. Calvit has tried various complex cases, including civil rights cases against political subdivisions and public officials.  He has also litigated cases of a more diverse nature, including an annexation dispute between two political subdivisions, as well as prison inmate, copyright and class action suits. Catherine G. Brame

Attorney Brief

Ms. Brame joined the firm in 1991 and is a director with the firm. Prior to becoming an attorney, Ms. Brame earned her Paralegal Certification from Tulane University. After several years as a litigation paralegal, she entered law school and has been in practice since 1988.

John D. Ryland
